Japan Self-Defense Forces

The Japan Self-Defense Forces (自衛隊, Jieitai?), or JSDF, are the military forces in Japan that were established after the end of World War II. The force has not been engaged in real combat but has been engaged in some international peacekeeping operations. Recent tensions, particularly with North Korea and China, have reignited the debate over the status of the SDF and its relation to society.
